Kanata grew in waves, and the equipment in your basement usually tells us which wave your home belongs to. Beaverbrook and Glen Cairn are the oldest neighbourhoods, laid out under Bill Teron’s original plan starting in the 1960s. Katimavik-Hazeldean filled in next.
Bridlewood, Morgan’s Grant, Brookside and Kanata Lakes followed, mostly through the 1990s and 2000s. That wave keeps us busiest today. Many of those homes still run the builder-grade furnace and air conditioner they were sold with, and a gas furnace in Ottawa typically lasts 15 to 20 years.
Newer streets in Arcadia and around the Kanata North tech park are a different job: tighter construction, an HRV as standard, and compact mechanical rooms in townhomes where every centimetre of service clearance matters.

Is it time to replace the original furnace in my Kanata Lakes home?
