Rockland is the main urban centre of Clarence-Rockland, in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, east of Orléans where Highway 174 continues as County Road 17. Older streets near the Ottawa River hold post-war bungalows and two-storeys, and the town has grown quickly with commuter subdivisions of townhomes and singles built from the 1990s on.
Outside town, in Clarence Creek, Bourget, Hammond and along the river, the picture turns rural: larger lots, private wells, and more propane, oil and electric heat. Many of those homes are strong candidates for heat pumps.
Rockland is on the far side of the city from our Nepean shop, so we book visits with a realistic arrival window and group calls where we can. Emergency calls are still answered around the clock.

Furnace and air conditioning service in Rockland
Much of our Rockland work mirrors what we do next door in Orléans: furnace replacements in 20- to 30-year-old houses, central air installs, and repairs on whatever brand the builder or a previous owner chose.
Homes from the 1990s often still have an original mid-efficiency or early high-efficiency furnace and an air conditioner that runs on R-22. R-22 has been phased out, so topping one up gets expensive. When that AC fails, replacing it together with the furnace usually gives the best result and a properly matched system.
| Rockland job | Typical installed range |
|---|---|
| Furnace + AC combo replacement | $8,000 – $15,000 |
| Central air conditioner replacement | $4,000 – $8,000 |
| AC repair (most common repairs) | $150 – $1,200; compressor replacement $1,800 – $3,500 |
| High-efficiency gas furnace (96–98% AFUE) | $4,500 – $8,500 (variable-speed/modulating up to ~$10,500) |
| Smart thermostat installed | $250 – $600 |
| Furnace humidifier (bypass / fan-powered) | $500 – $1,000; steam humidifier $1,200 – $2,200 |
These are typical installed ranges before rebates. Your price depends on the home, the equipment and any venting or ductwork changes, and estimates on new installations are free. Financing from $49/month is available on approved credit.

After the 2022 storm: gas appliances that keep working
The May 2022 derecho left parts of Clarence-Rockland without power for days, and plenty of owners have since thought harder about how they’d cook and stay warm in the next long outage. A gas range with burners you can light by hand, or a standing-pilot gas fireplace, can carry a household through.
We install gas lines for ranges, dryers, BBQs, fireplaces and garage heaters in Rockland homes with natural gas, and propane piping for rural properties. Every line is pressure-tested before an appliance is connected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers from licensed Ottawa technicians. Still have a question? Call us any time.
Do you service Rockland and Clarence-Rockland?
Yes. We cover Rockland and the surrounding Clarence-Rockland communities, including Clarence Creek, Bourget and Hammond. Rockland is east of Orléans along Highway 174, on the far side of Ottawa from our Nepean shop, so we give you a clear arrival window when you book. Emergency calls for no heat, no cooling or no hot water are answered 24/7.
My Rockland AC uses R-22. Should I repair it?
Usually not, if it needs refrigerant. R-22 has been phased out, so the remaining supply is costly, and any unit old enough to use it is typically past 15 years. A small electrical repair can still be worthwhile, but a leak or compressor failure is normally the point to replace. A new central AC typically costs $4,000 – $8,000 installed.
Is a heat pump a good fit for a rural Clarence home?
Often. If you heat with oil, propane or electric baseboards, a cold-climate heat pump can lower heating costs and add air conditioning. Exposed rural lots catch strong winter winds, so we size the system and its backup heat from a proper heat-loss calculation. With existing ducts, expect roughly $9,000 to $18,000 for a ducted system, less any rebates.
Power just came back after a storm. Is my Rockland furnace safe to restart?
Usually. Most furnaces restart on their own once power returns and the thermostat calls for heat. If yours doesn’t, check the breaker and the furnace service switch, clear any debris or snow from the PVC vent pipes outside, and replace a badly clogged filter. If you smell gas, leave the house and call Enbridge’s emergency line first; call us for repairs.
Do you install water heaters in Rockland?
Yes. We install gas tank water heaters ($1,800 – $3,200 installed for 40–50 gallons) and tankless units ($3,500 – $6,500), and we can help you replace a rented tank with an owned heater or arrange a rental. Rural homes on wells may need more frequent flushing because of hard water.
How old is too old for the furnace in a 1990s Rockland house?
If the furnace is original to a 1990s house, it’s now roughly 26 to 36 years old, well past the typical design life. It may still run, but efficiency drops and safety parts like the heat exchanger wear out. Replacing it with a 96–98% AFUE model usually runs $4,500 – $8,500 installed before rebates, with modulating units costing more.
