Drive from Convent Glen to Avalon and you pass through roughly five decades of house building. On a single Orleans street we can find a 1970s furnace’s replacement, a 1990s original and a 2010s system still under its first owner. Knowing which generation you have tells us most of what to check.
1970s and early 1980s: Convent Glen, Orleans Wood, Queenswood Heights
Mostly on their second or third furnace. Ductwork and venting were changed piecemeal over the years, so we often find mismatched returns, old chimney liners and AC coils that no longer match the furnace above them.
1980s and 1990s: Fallingbrook and Chapel Hill
The biggest group of Orleans replacements right now. Many of these homes are running a furnace and air conditioner installed in the late 1990s or early 2000s, both at or past the end of a normal service life.
2000s and newer: Avalon, Cardinal Creek and the streets off Trim Road
High-efficiency furnaces, HRVs and tighter envelopes. Calls here are about maintenance, HRV cleaning, failed igniters and flame sensors, and rooms that overheat in summer.

Serving Orleans from the other side of the city
Our shop is in Barrhaven, so we are honest about it: Orleans is on the far side of Ottawa from us. We make it work by grouping east-end appointments on the same days, which keeps arrival windows tight for tune-ups, estimates and installs.
For breakdowns, our emergency line is answered 24/7 and we dispatch to Orleans like anywhere else we serve. Booking maintenance early in spring and fall is the easiest way to avoid needing that line at all.
Mustafa, an Orleans customer, summed up a furnace job this way: “From the first phone call to scheduling and actually installing the furnace, they were great.” – Mustafa, Orleans
What Orleans homeowners ask us about
Is it time for my second furnace?
Fallingbrook and Chapel Hill homes with a furnace from around 2000 are now 25 years in. If it needs a major part, we will price the repair and the replacement side by side.
Learn more →Why is the new subdivision so hot?
Newer Orleans streets have young trees and little shade, so summer sun hits walls and windows directly. Correct AC sizing, clean coils and good attic insulation matter more there.
Should I go hybrid?
A cold-climate heat pump with your gas furnace as backup heats most of the year on electricity and switches to gas on the coldest nights.
Learn more →Can I get rid of the water heater rental?
Yes. We install owned tank and tankless water heaters, and can explain how a buyout or removal usually works.
Learn more →Can you heat the garage?
We run gas lines for garage heaters, BBQs and ranges, with every connection pressure-tested by a licensed gas technician.
Hybrid heating: a strong fit for many Orleans homes
When an Orleans air conditioner from the early 2000s needs replacing, it is the natural moment to consider a ducted cold-climate heat pump instead. It sits where the AC sits, cools the same way in summer, and heats the house through spring, fall and much of the winter.
Your existing gas furnace stays as backup and takes over when it gets very cold, so comfort does not depend on the heat pump at −30 °C. For a deeper look, read do heat pumps work in Ottawa winters.
A ducted cold-climate heat pump with existing ducts typically costs $9,000 – $18,000 installed. Rebates may be available, and Oria will check current programs for your home; see HVAC rebates. The final price depends on the home, equipment and venting/ductwork, and Oria gives free estimates on new installs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers from licensed Ottawa technicians. Still have a question? Call us any time.
Can Oria fix my furnace in Convent Glen or Fallingbrook?
Yes. Oria repairs, tunes up and replaces furnaces in Convent Glen, Fallingbrook, Queenswood Heights, Chapel Hill, Avalon and every other Orleans neighbourhood. Our licensed gas technicians work on all brands. For a no-heat emergency, call (613) 866-1869 any time, day or night.
Will Oria come to Orleans for an emergency?
Yes. Although our shop is in Barrhaven, Orleans is part of our regular service area and our emergency line is answered 24/7 for furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters, humidifiers and HRVs. How soon we arrive depends on the weather and how many calls are ahead of yours, and the dispatcher will tell you honestly when you phone.
Is a hybrid heat pump worth it in Orleans?
For many Orleans homes with ductwork and a working gas furnace, yes. A cold-climate heat pump handles cooling and most heating, while the furnace covers the coldest nights. It makes the most sense when your air conditioner is due for replacement anyway. Expect $9,000 – $18,000 for a ducted system using your existing ducts.
Why is my Avalon home hot upstairs even with the AC running?
In newer Orleans subdivisions with little shade, second floors take the most sun. Common causes are an undersized or low-refrigerant AC, a dirty coil or filter, closed or blocked registers and weak return air upstairs. Oria checks refrigerant charge, airflow and duct balance before recommending any new equipment.
How old is the furnace in my Fallingbrook home likely to be?
Many Fallingbrook homes had their first furnace replaced in the late 1990s or early 2000s, which makes that replacement 20 to 25 years old now. The model and serial number on the furnace label tell you the exact age. Past 15 to 20 years, start planning a replacement before a mid-winter failure.
Do you install tankless water heaters in Orleans?
Yes. Oria installs gas tankless water heaters in Orleans homes, which free up floor space and supply continuous hot water. A tankless water heater typically costs $3,500 – $6,500 installed, depending on gas line size and venting. We also replace standard tanks and can set up a rental if you prefer.
