Kemptville is the main town in the Municipality of North Grenville, on Kemptville Creek just off Highway 416. It has a historic downtown with older brick homes, settled neighbourhoods of 1970s–90s houses, and a steady wave of new subdivisions as more Ottawa commuters move south.
Around the town, Oxford Mills, Burritts Rapids, Bishop’s Mills and Oxford Station are rural: private wells, larger lots, and a mix of propane, oil, electric and wood heat. Some houses along the Rideau River started out as cottages before becoming year-round homes.
From our Nepean shop, Kemptville is a straight run south on Highway 416, which makes it easier to reach than many places the same distance away.

Furnace repair and replacement in Kemptville
In town, most homes heat with natural gas. We handle furnace repairs on every make and replacements with 96–98% AFUE furnaces. Canada now requires at least 95% AFUE for new gas furnaces, so even a basic replacement for a 1990s mid-efficiency unit cuts gas use noticeably.
Some downtown brick homes still heat with a hot-water boiler and radiators. Those owners usually want to keep that comfortable radiant heat, so we replace the boiler with a high-efficiency model and add a ductless mini-split for summer cooling.
| Kemptville project | Typical installed range |
|---|---|
| Furnace repair (most common repairs) | $150 – $900; major parts $600 – $2,000 |
| High-efficiency gas furnace replacement | $4,500 – $8,500 (variable-speed/modulating up to ~$10,500) |
| Boiler replacement | $7,000 – $15,000 |
| Ductless mini-split, single zone | $3,500 – $6,500 |
| Furnace or AC tune-up | $120 – $200 per system |
Use these as typical Ottawa-area installed ranges before rebates, not as a quote. The house, the equipment and the venting or ductwork set the final number, and estimates for new installations are free.

Kemptville’s newer subdivisions
Recent Kemptville builds usually have equipment chosen to fit the builder’s budget: a basic condensing furnace, an entry-level AC and an HRV. The upgrades we install most are humidifiers, smart thermostats, and tankless water heaters in place of rental tanks.
Some builder air conditioners also end up a size too small for south- and west-facing two-storeys. If the upstairs bedrooms stay warm on July evenings, a load calculation tells us whether the fix is airflow, ductwork or a larger unit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers from licensed Ottawa technicians. Still have a question? Call us any time.
Do you serve Kemptville and North Grenville?
Yes. We serve Kemptville and the surrounding North Grenville communities, including Oxford Mills, Oxford Station, Bishop’s Mills and Burritts Rapids. Our technicians come down Highway 416 from our shop on Longfields Drive in Nepean. We handle repairs, installations, maintenance plans and 24/7 emergency calls for heating, cooling, water heaters, humidifiers, HRVs and gas lines.
Should I replace my Kemptville oil furnace with gas, propane or a heat pump?
If natural gas reaches your street, a high-efficiency gas furnace is usually the lowest-cost replacement to install. Outside town, the choice is mostly between propane and a cold-climate heat pump, often with propane or electric backup. Heat pumps add central air and end fuel deliveries. We compare installed and running costs for your house before you decide.
Can a mini-split heat a converted cottage through the winter?
Often, if the building is insulated well enough. Cold-climate mini-splits keep heating well below −20 °C, but a former cottage with thin walls and a crawlspace can lose heat faster than a small system replaces it. We assess insulation and heat loss first. Single-zone systems run $3,500 – $6,500 installed; multi-zone systems $7,000 – $16,000.
How often should a furnace be serviced in a rural home?
Once a year, ideally in early fall. Rural homes can be a longer wait for help during a storm, so catching a weak igniter, dirty flame sensor or blocked condensate line ahead of time matters more. A furnace or AC tune-up typically costs $120 – $200 per system, and propane furnaces need the same yearly check as natural gas ones.
Do you install AC in Kemptville homes without ductwork?
Yes. Homes with baseboards, boilers or wood heat usually get a ductless mini-split, which provides cooling and efficient heating from wall-mounted heads. One head can cool an open main floor; a multi-zone system covers bedrooms too. If the house already has ducts, a central AC or ducted heat pump is usually the simpler choice.
Are rebates available for heat pumps in North Grenville?
Rebates may be available. Ontario’s main program is the Home Renovation Savings Program, and eligibility depends on your current heating fuel, the equipment chosen and the program rules at the time you apply. Oria will check current programs for your home before you commit, and quote equipment that qualifies where it makes sense.
